The Cape Cod Fencing Club is a Federal 501 (c) (3) and State registered non-profit corporation and is run by volunteers. However, several of the coaches are associate club members who give private paid lessons.

Youth fencing, like many other youth sports, has competition goals. With fencing the ultimate goal would be to achieve an A level skill rating and then to be selected for the Olympics. There are no professional fencers, no Major Leagues, no multi million dollar contracts. Athletic scholarships for fencing are scarce. Frequently the fact that a college applicant is a competition fencer will tip the balance when academic factors are equal. Fencers make good students.

Unlike most team sports, fencers must purchase their own equipment in addition to paying club dues. Competition gear for a fencer can cost upwards of $650. In addition there are travel and lodging expenses that must be borne by a fencer’s family – for good fencers this may mean travel out of state several times a year, for several days to Regional, Sectional and National competitions.

The club is always seeking corporate and individual support. Please email Jim Kelly at capefencer@aol.com for further information.
